Groundhog Day Movie Review

What goes around comes around! You reap what you sow! Do onto others as you wish done onto yourself! This is a good movie to teach you that all is one and one is all. The reason I feel this is because at the beginning of the film the main character is all about him. As he starts to see that the same day is repeating, he takes advantage of it for himself by seducing women, robbing, and basically indulging in the pleasures of the flesh knowing that there will be no consequences to his actions. He manipulates his surroundings to suit himself, soon realising that this is not very fulfilling for him in the long run, which is only the one day repeating over and over.

The concept of a 'farmstay' relates to spending a break on a farm, typically as an effort to get away from it all. In this context, I thought it would be fun to look at how farmstays have been depicted in movies and, by extension, how farmstays have hosted movie stars.

City folk visits the country

As a précis for a movie, the notion of a city dweller moving to the country to stay (or live) on a farm or farmstay is not a new concept. There are any number of movies with this theme such as:

· Footloose (1984) - an oldie but a classic for my generation. One of the many movies that Kevin Bacon has made over the years (check out the Kevin Bacon game online for a bit of fun). The movie involves a young Bacon moving from Chicago to a rural community in Oklahoma and learning to cope with farm life and small-town thinking

· City Slickers 1 and 2 (1991 and 1994) - three city-based friends decide to take a break from city life droving cattle in the country with some humorous outcomes and reflective moments
